I spent many nights reading Project Hail Mary in dim lighting, praying I wouldn’t wake up the baby because I could not put it down. I laughed, cried, and cheered as Ryland Grace desperately tried to save the world.

Summary

A mysterious parasite is eating the sun’s energy, causing dire consequences for Earth. Ryland Grace is the only survivor on a mission to save Earth. He wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or what he is supposed to be doing. His crewmates are dead and he has no idea where he is. As he slowly regains memory, he realizes it is all up to him to find a solution to save his home from extinction.

Review

Andy Weir is one of those authors that I will continue to follow no matter what. I have enjoyed every book he has written! (I have a thing for spacey science fiction).

This book switches back and forth between Ryland’s present and the past, as he begins to remember the past. Switching back and forth keeps the reader wondering what happened.

There are a lot of math and science experiments in this book. Some were easy to understand and others tended to drag on a bit. Some people were annoyed with the math, but I didn’t mind it since Ryland is a microbiologist and that is how his character thinks.

If you are like me and love science fiction, you should definitely read this book!

Favorite Quotes

“I penetrated the outer cell membrane with a nanosyringe. You poked it with a stick? No! Well. Yes. But it was a scientific poke with a very scientific stick.”

“Human beings have a remarkable ability to accept the abnormal and make it normal”

“Once again I’m struck by melancholy. I want to spend the rest of my life studying Eridian biology! But I have to save humanity first. Stupid humanity. Getting in the way of my hobbies.”

Rating

I gave Project Hail Mary 5/5 stars.
