Jane is a dog walker for the gated community, Thornfield Estates. Her life changes when she meets Eddie Rochester, a widower, whose wife drowned in a boating accident. As they begin their relationship, the memory of Bea keeps coming between them.

My Thoughts

This book is a retelling of Jane Eyre but with a southern gothic twist. I could not put this book down and ended up staying up half the night to finish it! It has so many twists and turns, just when I thought I had it figured out, the author would throw another curveball that would leave my head spinning.

The characters in this book are very unlikable and yet I enjoyed it. Jane carefully plans out her every move in order to accomplish her goal of being comfortable in life. She isn’t afraid to lie, cheat, or steal her way to the top. Things change when she meets Eddie Rochester and she must learn quickly to adapt to life in Thornfield Estates.

Eddie is one of those guys who you love in the beginning, but after you get to know him, you realize that you have no idea what the man is capable of. You know immediately that there is something off about him (just look at the title).
